Switzerland November 2022: Tesla Model Y now #1 YTD, VW ID.Buzz up to #21

The VW ID.Buzz is climbing the Swiss ranking fast.

After losing -17.6% a year ago, the Swiss new car market rallies back up 13.7% year-on-year in November to 21,406 registrations, with a year-to-date volume now down -6% to 201,197. 4×4 sales match the market at +13.7% to 10,868 and 50.8% share and edge down -0.5% to 101,186 and 50.3% share year-to-date vs. 47.5% over the same period in 2021. Petrol sales are up 11.5% to 7,566 and 35.3% share vs. 36% for the month but are down -16.4% YTD to 76,703 and 38.1% share vs. 42.9% a year ago. Diesel is up a surprising 12% for the month to 2,208 and 10.3% share vs. 10.3% a year ago and down -18.4% year-to-date to 23,966 and 11.9% share vs. 13.7% in 2021. HEV are up 23.5% to 5,531 and 25.8% share vs. 23.8% and up 7.1% YTD to 50,380 and 25% share vs. 22%. PHEV disappoint at -14.1% to 1,701 and 7.9% share vs. 10.5% in November 2021 and are down -13.7% YTD to 16,655 and 8.3% share vs. 9%. Finally EV are up 22.1% this month to 4,391 and 20.5% share vs. 19.1% and up 27.1% YTD to 33,314 and 16.6% vs. 12.3%.

Over in the brands ranking, Volkswagen (+56.2%) posts a fantastic gain to reign supreme at 12.7% share ahead of BMW (+6.1%), leader a year ago. Audi (+43.8%) is also in outstanding shape at #3, distancing Skoda (+4.5%) and Mercedes (-3%) both underperforming. Ford (+64.6%) and Toyota (+56.8%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. Tesla (-2.8%) is back inside the Top 10 brands at #9 but loses ground year-on-year. Below, Seat (+18.3%) delivers a rare gain, with Cupra (+72.1%), Kia (+42.3%), Honda (+39.7%), Opel (+32.1%) and Alfa Romeo (+31.1%) also doing great.

Model-wise, the Top 8 best-sellers all outpace the market. The Tesla Model Y (+105.3%) scores its second ever win after last September and grabs the YTD top spot in the process. The Skoda Enyaq (+48.3%) is up five spots on last month to #2, followed by the VW Tiguan (+143.3%), last month’s lander the Toyota Yaris (+165.3%) and the Audi Q3 (+20.2%). In tow are the Audi A3 (+150.7%), VW Polo (+26.9%) and Skoda Karoq (+66.8%). The Fiat 500 (+12%) underperforms slightly at #9 while the Dacia Sandero (+19.7%) rounds out the Top 10 in solid fashion. Notice also the VW ID.Buzz up 121 ranks on October to #21.
