Argentina January 2022: Fiat #1 for first time in 23 years thanks to Cronos shattering share record

The Fiat Cronos holds a whopping 14% of the Argentinean market in January.

The Argentinean new vehicle market is down -12.5% year-on-year in January to 43,256 units. Fiat (+14.8%) defies the market drop to score its first monthly top spot in 23 years: since 1999. Leader over the Full Year 2021 when it ended 17 consecutive years of Volkswagen domination, Toyota (-19.7%) ranks #2 this month while Peugeot (+60.6%) soars to third place. Citroen (+42.9%), Jeep (+35.7%) and Nissan (+29%) are the additional gainers in the Top 10 whereas at the other end of the spectrum Volkswagen (-44.1%), Ford (-43.6%), Chevrolet (-24.9%) and Renault (-23.6%) all dive. Further down, notice Ram (+142.7%), KYC (+100%), Kia (+36.1%), DS (+29.3%) and BMW (+29%) posting fantastic gains but they are all below 0.5% market share.

The models ranking is completely obliterated by the Fiat Cronos (+16.3%) smashing its market share record to 14% vs. a previous best of 10.6% exactly one year ago in January 2021. The Peugeot 208 (+44.2%) surges to an outstanding 2nd place, dislodging the Toyota Hilux (-32.4%) and VW Amarok (-3.1%). All remaining Top 10 models bar the Ford Ranger (-38.2%) go against the grain and manage a double-digit uptick: The Jeep Renegade (+55.4%), Renault Kangoo (+54.3%), Chevrolet Cruze (+47%) and Renault Sandero (+43.1%) being the most impressive followed at a distance by the Toyota Etios (+13.4%). Just outside the Top 10 at #11, the Toyota Corolla Cross is the most popular recent launch ahead of the VW Taos (#18) and Ford Bronco (#37).
