Taiwan September 2020: Hyundai Venue lands at #13, sales up 13.3%

The Hyundai Venue has landed in Taiwan.

New car sales in Taiwan celebrates a second straight double-digit year-on-year gain and third uptick in the past 4 months in September at +13.3% to 37.241 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 4.4% to 325.806. Brand leader Toyota (-26.2%) goes against the market’s great health and endures the steepest fall in the Top 12 but comfortably remains at #1 with 18.4% share. Below Mitsubishi/CMC (+10.7%), Mercedes (+75.1%), Ford (+72.2%) and Honda (+35.9%) all post brilliant results, with Tesla (+120.1%) and BMW (+46.4%) also very strong further down.

Model-wise, the Toyota RAV4 (-3.4%) reclaims the top spot it holds YTD off the Toyota Corolla Altis (-29.9%) while the Honda CR-V (+80.7%) and Ford Kuga (+243%) are on fire and complete an SUV-heavy Top 4. The Mercedes GLC (+70.7%), Ford Focus (+32.7%) and Nissan Kicks (+29%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10, while the Tesla Model 3 tops recent launches at #12, down one spot on August. This month we welcome the Hyundai Venue directly at #13 and by far the brand’s best-seller: it’s a format favoured by Taiwanese customers as it competes with the Nissan Kicks. An oddity also makes its first appearance in the Taiwan charts in September: the CMC Zinger Pickup landing at #52.

Previous month: Taiwan August 2020: Ford (+133.6%) and Kuga (+536.4%) up to #3 in market up 45.4%

One year ago: Taiwan September 2019: Toyota RAV4 breaks volume and share records in market up 6.7%
