Taiwan September 2019: Toyota RAV4 breaks volume and share records in market up 6.7%

The Toyota RAV4 hits the highest share of any nameplate in Taiwan in almost 4 years.

The Taiwanese new car market is up by a solid 6.7% year-on-year in September to 32.854 units, yet the year-to-date tally remains in negative territory at -3.3% to 312.169. Brand leader Toyota (+20.4%) almost triples the market growth to cement its domination at 22.2% share, followed by Mitsubishi/CMC (+4.1%) and Nissan/Infiniti (+10.6%). Ford (+45.3%) and Lexus (+21.1%) also shine in the Top 10 whereas Volkswagen (-28.3%), Honda (-25.5%), Mazda (-19.8%) and BMW (-17.2%) all freefall. Model-wise, the Toyota RAV4 (+277.8%) almost quadruples its sales year-on-year to smash its Taiwanese volume record established just last June by over 1.000 units to 4.110 and 12.5% share. This means the RAV4 is now only 32 units off stealing the YTD crown off the Toyota Corolla (+64.4%). This is the highest volume by any nameplate in Taiwan since January 2018 (Corolla 4.123) and highest share since December 2015 (Corolla 12.8%). The CMC Veryca (+1.8%) reclaims its YTD #3 spot ahead of the Nissan Kicks and Honda CR-V (-25.4%).
