Taiwan August 2019: Toyota RAV4 snaps lead in market down -7.9%
The Toyota RAV4 is the best-selling vehicle in Taiwan in August.
New car sales in Taiwan drop -7.9% year-on-year in August to 23.964 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally down -4.1% to 279.315. Toyota (-10.5%) falls slightly faster than the market but remains ultra-dominant at 19.9% share vs. 23.4% YTD, followed this time by Nissan/Infiniti soaring 23.3% to 8.4% share thanks to over 2.000 sales. Mitsubishi/CMC (-42%) freefall in third place while Mercedes (+5.1%) is up two spots on July to #4. Ford (+42.1%) once again signs the largest gain in the Top 10 and rounds up the Top 5, with the remaining Top 10 brands all in negative and Mazda (-39.2%) and Honda (-36.3%) hit the hardest. Model-wise, the Toyota RAV4 (+75.4%) is the overall best-seller for the 2nd time in the past 6 months after last March, distancing the Toyota Corolla (-0.9%) still leader YTD. The new generation Ford Focus (+276.1%) has hit the bullseye in Taiwan, up 6 spots on July to #3 ahead of the new Nissan Kicks, the Toyota Sienna (-9.9%) and CMC Veryca (-23.1%).
