The Gulf Cooperation Council is an economic union including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. In 2019 and on the sole strength of Saudi Arabia (+30.6%), sales in the region shoot up 12% to easily cross back above the annual million unit milestone at 1.046.821 sales. Toyota (+6.2%) halves the market growth rate but comfortably remains in pole position with 32.3% share or just under 1 in every 3 new cars registered. Hyundai (+50.5%) posts the most spectacular gain in the Top 10, overtaking Nissan (-7.9%) to snap the 2nd spot overall. Mitsubishi (+4.6%) sees its share thaw to 5.6%, distancing Kia (+15.3%), Chevrolet (+8.5%) and Mazda (+37.8%) like in 2018 just as Lexus (+7.6%) and Isuzu (+13.3%) both leapfrog past Ford (-5.4%). Chinese MG (+129.9%) is the most impressive carmaker in the entire market, jumping up 5 spots to #12 and 1.5% share, but Changan (#15) is already close behind for its first annual appearance in the GCC charts thanks to a stunning landing in Saudi Arabia.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Land Cruiser (+7%) snaps its first annual victory this decade, overtaking the leader since 2010, the Toyota Hilux (+1.7%). Indeed the Land Cruiser won no less than 5 out of the 6 GCC market in 2019 (BahrainKuwait, OmanQatar and the UAE) vs. none for the Hilux which compensated with strong scores in every market. The Toyota Camry (+13%) holds onto the third spot while the Nissan Sunny (+37%) is up one to #4 and both the Hyundai Accent (+74.9%) and Elantra (+65.9%) benefit from outstanding scores in Saudi Arabia where they rak #1 and #2 respectively. The Toyota Yaris (+28.1%) also shines at #7, with Toyota also placing the Corolla (-0.3%) and Prado (-10.4%) inside the Top 10 for a total of 6 nameplates. The Mitsubishi Attrage (+108%), Mazda CX-9 (+53.1%), Mazda6 (+45.8%), Hyundai Tucson (+41.1%) and Isuzu TF (+33.1%) stand out below as the best-selling 2019 launch titles goes to the Kia Pegas (#42) above the Changan Eado (#59) and CS75 (#71).
