New car sales in Bulgaria are up 6% year-on-year in May to an estimated 2,163 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 10,506 units, up 14% on 2013. Bulgarian sales data is always to be taken with a pinch of salt as a large portion of new car sales in the country never make it to local roads but are re-exported elsewhere in the European Union, given Bulgaria is home to some of the lowest car prices in the EU. See here for more on this phenomenon. In this context, Dacia keeps the brands lead by far with 267 sales and 12.3% ahead of Volkswagen (9.2%), Skoda (8.8%), Renault (8.7%) and Ford (8%).
For the first time since BSCB started to follow monthly Bulgarian sales (August 2012), the Skoda Octavia is the best-seller in the country with 101 sales and 4.7%, passing the year-to-date leader the Dacia Dokker at 96 units and 4.4% and the Ford Fiesta at 84 and 3.9%. The Dacia Sandero and Renault Captur round up the Top 5, with other great performers this month including the Nissan Qashqai up 19 spots on April to #6, the Peugeot 208 up to #8 vs. #20 year-to-date, the Nissan Note up 148 ranks to #10, Dacia Lodgy up to #12 vs. #28 and the Ford Focus up 44 to #15.
