38th consecutive month of year-on-year decline for the Italian new car market (that’s over 3 years!), however the fall is less severe this month at just -2% to 108,018 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 843,456 units, down 9% on 2012. UNRAE predicts a full year 2013 under 1.3 million units. The Fiat Panda is the market leader for the 19th month in a row with 7,378 sales and 6.8%, followed by the Fiat Punto down to 5% share at 5,446 units and the Lancia Ypsilon at 4,079 sales.
The hero of the month is the Fiat 500L (again!), back up a magnificent 8 spots on June to land at #4 with 3,537 sales and 3.3%. This is the 500L’s best ranking so far in Italy, a position it also reached last March. This means for only the 2nd time ever with last March, the 500L outsells lil’ sis’ the 500, #5 in July at 3,331 units and 3.1%. It also means that for the second time in 3 months (with last May), the Top 5 is 100% Italian, whereas this had not happened in the last 16 years!
We welcome back the Alfa Romeo Giulietta in the Top 10, up 6 ranks on June to #8, its best ranking since July 2012, the Toyota Yaris is up 3 to #10, its first time inside the Top 10 so far in 2013, the Renault Captur is up 6 to #21, Fiat Freemont up 22 to #23, Ford B-Max up 15 to #24, Kia Sportage up 9 to #27 and the VW Passat is up 28 spots to #31.
