Italy Station Wagons July 2013: BMW 3 Series #1 year-to-date!

As is the tradition on BSCB, before we explore the overall Italian new car market we first have a look at the station wagons (SW) segment as it displays some very interesting trends. SW sales are down 6% year-on-year in July in Italy to 6,957 registrations for a 6.4% market share vs. 6.7% one year ago. Massive event in the models ranking this month: the BMW 3 Series takes the lead for the second time this year after March with 882 sales and an excellent 74% SW ratio, and this is enough to instal the premium model in pole position year-to-date at 5,528 units and 66%!

The VW Passat is up 5 spots on June to #2 with 830 and an out-of-this-world 93% SW ratio, followed by the Audi A4 with 790 sales and 93%, the Opel Astra at 530 units and 67% and the Ford Focus with 517 sales and 63%, now #2 year-to-date at 5,489 units and 62%. The Audi A6 is back inside the Top 10 at #7 with an outstanding 81% SW ratio, as is the Chevrolet Cruze at #10 with 238 sales.
