The Czech new car market is down year-on-year once again but slightly less so than last month at -8% to 14,822 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 66,336 units, down 13% on 2012. Now this is a historical month in the Czech Republic for homegrown carmaker Skoda: for the first time in the 118-year history of the brand, its entire range fits within the monthly Top 10! The fact that the entire range fit within the Top 10 may have happened before but never had Skoda’s range been so extensive, currently composed of 7 models. Basically what it means in crude terms is that in Czech Republic, Skoda doesn’t have any dud models and all sell extremely well, a very rare feat for any manufacturer anywhere in the world.
So let’s recap all 7 models: the Octavia remains on top however it sees its market share melt from 12.8% last month to just 8.3%, just enough to stay above the Fabia at 7.9%. The Rapid stays in third place but hits its best market share so far at 4.7%, the Superb is up 3 spots at #5, the Citigo up 4 to #8, and finally both the Yeti and the Roomster are stable at #10. In other news, the Ford Fiesta is up a magnificent 12 spots to climb up to #4 and best-selling import, the Toyota Yaris is also up 12 to #16, the Seat Leon is up a further 9 to #18 vs. #142 over the Full Year 2012 (!), the Renault Fluence is up 22 to #23 and the Ford Mondeo up 40 to #30. A couple of newcomers in the ranking: the Kia Carens at #91 and the Renault Captur at #117.
