As predicted at the end of last month, the PIVE plan has not saved the new car market in Spain, with December down a horrendous 23% year-on-year to 51,197 registrations, bringing the Full Year 2012 total just under 700,000 units for the first time in at least 25 years at 699,589, down 13% on 2011. If the PIVE plan hasn’t managed to reverse new car sales back into positive, it at least had a significant effect on the models ranking this month. The Peugeot 208 takes the lead of Spanish sales for the first time ever with a beautiful 2,115 sales and 4.1%, up 8 spots on November and making Spain the 4th country to have crowned the 208 in a monthly ranking so far after Portugal, France and Croatia. The 208 finishes 2012 at #20.
Leader last month, the Nissan Qashqai is down to a still amazing 2nd spot and even improves its market share to 3.5% at 1,808 sales. Down to a ridiculously low 4,700€ and by far the cheapest new car currently on sale in Spain thanks to the PIVE plan, the Dacia Sandero is up a huge 22 ranks to a best-ever third position in Spain this month with 1,675 units and 3.3%, and is followed by the Renault Clio helped by the 4th generation and back up 8 spots to #4 after leading the market in October. This is potentially the highest ever ranking reached by a Dacia model in Spain, and 2013 may bring more records…
December prediction: Spain December 2012: Predicted at -27% in spite of PIVE plan
Previous month: Spain November 2012: Nissan Qashqai and Citroen C4 on top
