Spain November 2012: Nissan Qashqai and Citroen C4 on top

In spite of the PIVE plan, the Spanish new car market is down another horrid 21% year-on-year in November to just 48,205 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 649,266 units, down 13% on 2011. This is the 4th consecutive month new car sales in Spain are below 50,000 units, potentially for the first time on record. There is one island of stability among this craziness: the Nissan Qashqai, #1 for the 5th time overall after December 2010, January 2012, July 2012 and August 2012. At 1,563 units, it grabs 3.2% of the market like in 2012 YTD (20,473 sales).

Seat Leon

The Citroen C4 also excels this month, up 13 spots on October to land in second position at 1,472 units and 3.1%, as does the Seat Leon up one rank to #3 with 1,430 sales and 3%. The Renault Megane is down one to #4 and teh Seat Ibiza stays 5th: it hasn’t been in pole position in its native country since last June but is still #1 year-to-date at 22,349 units and 3.4%. Notice also the Hyundai i30 up 9 spots to #10 and the Citroen C3 up 10 to #11.

Further down, notice the BMW 3 Series stable at #16 vs. #37 year-to-date, the VW Tiguan up 7 ranks to #26, the Kia Cee’d up 10 to #33, Hyundai i20 up 17 to #37, BMW X3 up 35 to #40, Fiat Punto up 15 to #41, Range Rover Evoque up to #44, Mercedes A-Class up 19 to #49 and Hyundai ix20 up 34 to #54. The Seat Toledo is surprisingly down 42 spots to #84 while the Citroen C-Elysee takes off and lands at #85 with 160 sales.

    The Spanish don’t seem to like city cars, the Seat Mii is not doing well either

    Interesting that this is another country where the VW Up! is not doing well.
