The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling vehicle in Spain in August.

New car sales in Spain are very strong once again in August, up 10.2% year-on-year to 93,858 units. Not only has the market easily caught up with pre-pandemic levels, but this is the highest August volume in 20 years, since the 2006 record year. The year-to-date tally is up 6.7% to 912,059. Rechargeable vehicles (BEV+PHEV) again pull the market up with sales up 56% year-on-year for the month to 31,945 and 34% share vs. 24% a year ago in September 2025. Year-to-date rechargeable volumes are up 36.9% to 217,298 and 23.8% share vs. 18.6% over the same period in 2025.

Private sales grow 13.5% to 51,713 and 55.1% share vs. 53.5% in September 2025, fleet sales are up 8.4% to 39,509 and 42.1% share vs. 42.8% last year and rentals are down -16.6% to 2,636. Year-to-date, private sales are up 7.6% to 418,280, fleet sales up 5.2% to 311,148 and rentals up 7.3% to 182,631. Navarra (+38.1%) is the best performing region followed by Murcia (+32%), Aragon (+28.8%), Cantabria (+26%), Galicia (+24.1%) and Castilla la Mancha (+22.4%). Madrid is up 9.1% to 37.8% share of the total market vs. 43.9% so far this year.

In the brands ranking, Toyota (+11.2%) matches the market to a splendid 9.8% share, one percentage point above its YTD level. In contrast Renault (-6.1%) and Volkswagen (-5.5%) disappoints with negative results. Seat (+4.1%) and Kia (+5.5%) are also weak and round out the Top 5. The performer of the month is once again BYD (+81.9%) up to a record 6th place and repeating at an all time high 4.7% share. Tesla (+24.8%) also impresses and is up 25 spots to #8. Below, Leapmotor (+515.5%), Omoda (+115.9%), Ebro (+76%) and Jaecoo (+64.2%) stand out.

As for models, we have a surprise on top: the Tesla Model 3 (+27.9%) goes from #106 in August directly into pole position with 2.7% share. This is the nameplate’s first ever monthly win in Spain, its previous record being #2 reached in September 2024 and September 2025. The Seat Ibiza (+23.6%) is very solid and up two spots on last month to #2. Still a distant leader year-to-date, the Dacia Sandero (-37.5%) worryingly implodes this month and falls to #3. The Opel Corsa (+42.7%), Toyota Corolla (+33.5%), Yaris Cross (+23.2%) and C-HR (+18.9%) post the biggest gains in the remainder of the Top 10.
