Spain July 2026: BYD (+80.7%), Ebro (+80.4%) stand out, four new Chinese brands arrive

The Lepas L8 has landed in Spain.

New car sales in Spain advance 3.7% year-on-year in July to 101,949 units, the highest July volume since the 117,929 of July 2020 and following a 17.1% YoY progression in July 2025. The year-to-date tally after 7 months is up 5.8% to 749,646. Rechargeable vehicles (BEV+PHEV) are up 20.1% in July to 25,229 units and 24.7% share, and up 34.9% YTD to 166,372 units and 22.2% share. The market is significantly lifted by sales to rental companies shooting up 18.9% YoY yo 12,272. Meanwhile private sales are up 1.7% to 51,539 and fleet sales up 2.2% to 38,138. Year-to-date, private sales are up 6.5% to 327,457, fleet sales up 3.9% to 244,472 and rental sales up 7.5% to 177,727. The best performing regions are Navarra (+26%), Aragon (+20.3%), Galicia (+16.3%), Extremadura (12.4%), Cantabria (+9.5%) and Madrid (+8.5%) holding 40.5% of the national market vs. 45.4% year-to-date.

Ebro sales are up 80.4% year-on-year.

Toyota (-0.5%) remains by far the most popular carmaker in Spain with 9% share and despite edging down YoY. It is followed by Volkswagen (-1.6%) at 6.7% share while Kia (+23%) delivers the biggest gain in the Top 10 and is up two spots on last month to #3 with 6.5% share, its highest since January 2025 (6.7%). Seat (-11.1%) falls to #4 while Dacia (+1.6%) is down to #5. BMW (+16.2%), Peugeot (+6.9%) and Mercedes (+3.7%) are also solid below. BYD (+80.7%) repeats at its ranking record at #11, with Ebro (+80.4%), assembling Chery models locally, in equally great shape and beating its share record at 2.5%. Leapmotor (+157.3%), Jaecoo (+79.5%), Mini (+52.9%) and Omoda (+42.8%) impress below, while newcomer Geely is up 15 spots to #26 with 1% of the market. This month we welcome three new Chinese brands: Lepas – a brand by Chery stilling alongside Jaecoo and Omoda and targeting younger buyers – at #57, Baojun at #65 and Exlantix at #68. Another Chinese entrant, Galloper (#72), for its part sells the Chinese-made Nissan Navara and Terra.

The Geely Starray is the best-selling recent launch in Spain in July.

Looking at the models charts, the Dacia Sandero (+13.4%) remains in its traditional pole position, followed like last month and YTD by the Seat Ibiza (+16.9%). The Toyota C-HR (+54.7%) is back up 9 spots on last month to land on the third step of the podium, distancing the Peugeot 2008 (+8%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (-2.5%). The MG ZS (+22.4%) and Nissan Qashqai (+15.3%) are strong while the Kia Sportage (+2.6%) and Seat Arona (-12.7%) make it 7 SUVs in the July Top 10. Notice also the BYD Atto 2 (+357.1%) continuing on its soaring trend but slipping out of the Top 10 at #13. The Omoda 5 (+98.4%) and Ebro S700 (+45.3%) also shine below. The best-selling newcomer is the Geely Starray at #35 (+98 spots on last month), followed by the Jaecoo 5 (#37), Leapmotor B10 (#58) and Deepal S05 (#64).
