The South African car market is up a healthy 10% year-on-year in April to 42,617 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 199,360 registrations, up 7% on 2011. The Toyota Hilux is the best-selling vehicle in the country for the third month in a row with 2,741 sales and 6.4% share, reinforcing its year-to-date advantage at 12,088 units and 6.1%. In fact the podium is unchanged for the third consecutive time and also identical to the Full Year 2011 and year-to-date 2012 rankings with the VW Polo Vivo at #2 and 5.3% share and the VW Polo #3 at 4.1%.

Range Rover Evoque

Below the Chevrolet Utility in great shape at #4, the Nissan NP200 (aka Dacia Logan pick-up) is stuck at its highest ever ranking in 5th place, having now reached that position 3 times along with January and March 2012. The locally produced Ford Ranger new generation confirms it is now a force to be reckoned with in the South African Top 10, ranking #6 again with 1,322 sales and 3.1%, this time only 58 units away from #4. The other two noticeable performances this month are the Range Rover Evoque up 22 spots on March to reach a best-ever 32nd place and the Jeep Grand Cherokee up to #41.
