The reason why I keep separating Station Wagons (SW) data each month in Italy is because this is one of the last countries in the world (with Sweden and Slovakia) to still be extremely keen of this type of vehicle. However this month it is not totally true. In an overall market down 18% year-on-year, SW sales are down 40% to 8,807 registrations, bringing the SW market share in Italy to 6.8%, down from 9.2% a year ago.
The Top 4 best-selling models are unchanged compared to last month with the Opel Astra leading the way with 1,027 sales, followed by the Ford Focus at 845 units, the VW Passat at 688 and the Audi A4 at 663. Normally the property of the Passat, the title of highest SW ratio for a model that also has a sedan version in its range (ie excluding the Volvo V-series) goes to the Audi A4 this month: 89% of A4 sold in Italy in April were Station Wagons!
Notice also the good performances of the Opel Insignia up to #5, the Volvo V50 up to #6 and the BMW 5 Series back in the Top 10 at #9. Year-to-date, the Ford Focus keeps the lead with 5,772 sales and a strong 61% SW ratio.
