The Bulgarian new car market managed to stay dynamic throughout the year with an estimated 8% year-on-year increase in 2012 to 24,328 registrations. Volkswagen remains the most popular carmaker but improves its share from 8.3% in 2011 to 10.7% this year thanks to sales up an impressive 42%. Toyota is up one spot and 16% to 2,069 units and 8.4% while Dacia is up 3 ranks and 30% to #3 and Skoda up 27% to #4. Reversely Ford is down 14% and 3 spots to #5 and Opel down 31% and 6 ranks to #10. The big event this year is of course the arrival of Great Wall as the first local manufacturer, with their Lovetch factory getting started in February. As a result Great Wall is up a mammoth 966% and 18 spots on 2011 to #6 with 1,461 sales and 5.9%, even peaking at #2 in October and December when it missed the top spot for just 7 sales. 2013 could be the first year a Chinese carmaker tops a European country’s ranking…

Great Wall Steed

Bulgaria is one of a few countries to have gained a detailed models ranking in 2012 so there is no comparison available with 2011. The Dacia Logan MCV is the most popular model in the country with 848 sales and 3.4% but Dacia is still hesitating to replace it now that the Dacia Lodgy is on sale. Therefore 2012 could well be the last year of reign for the Logan LCV in Bulgaria. Illustrating the thunderous arrival of Great Wall in the country’s ranking, the Great Wall Steed shoots up directly to #2 over the Full Year: boosted by a historical pole position in December, it finishes the year with 608 sales and 2.5%, equal with the Skoda Octavia.

Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage also shines, only 6 units below at 602, followed by the Ford Fiesta at 579, VW Caddy at 527 and Great Wall Voleex C10 at 488. The VW Polo, Opel Astra and Skoda Fabia round up the Top 10 with the Dacia Duster not far behind. Notice also the Great Wall Hover at #16, the Toyota Avensis at #19, Dacia Logan Sedan at #24, Skoda Yeti at #25, Toyota Land Cruiser at #36, BMW 5 Series at #41, Skoda Citigo at #59, Range Rover Evoque at #65 and BMW X6 at #67.

      Hello torals,
Yes this is correct as Hyundai nor Mercedes or Infiniti don’t communicate models sales in Bulgaria.
      Best,
