The Italians are one of the last consumers in the world with the Swedish and Slovak to continue to love Station Wagons (SW). This is why there is a monthly update about Italian SW sales here, but this could come to an end soon because the love story is fizzling out: in a market down 12% overall, SW sales in October are down 31% year-on-year to 8,143 units, bringing the SW market share down to 6.9% from 8.8% a year ago.
Last month the VW Passat managed to top the SW ranking for the first time in at least 2 years, and it October it does it again with a much larger margin! It sells 880 units for an out-0f-this-world 95% Station Wagon ratio and is now #3 year-to-date with 8,009 sales and 90%. The Audi A4 stays #2 at 717 units and 88% but is passed by the Passat year-to-date at #4 and 7,919 sales. 2011′s #1, the Opel Astra, is up one spot to #3 at 674 units while 2012′s leader so far the Ford Focus is down to #4 with 598 sales. Notice also the Opel Insignia back up to #7 and the Mercedes C-Class up to #8.
