Italy Station Wagons October 2011: VW Passat up to #2

In a general market down 6%, Station Wagon (SW) sales in Italy are up 1% in October at 11,766 registrations. The Opel Astra keeps the lead with 1,289 sales but sees its SW share decrease slightly to 62%. It reinforces its 2011 pole position at 16,493 units.
The VW Passat continues to climb the ranking and lands in an excellent 2nd place this month with 1,131 sales and a staggering 89% SW share. It is #4 year-to-date. The Ford Focus at 1,061 units (53% SW) and the Renault Megane at 984 sales (63%) both gain one spot on September while the Audi drops 3 spots to #5 and 977 units and an exceptional 89% SW rate. The Peugeot 508 is back in the Top 10 at a best-ever 7th place, while the Mercedes C Class also makes a rare appearance.

No surprise about the passat. It is one of cheapest medium stations. Prices start at 20.000 euros and it´s very common by the taxi drivers.
