Italian new car sales fall deeper into recession in September, down 25% year-on-year to 110,346 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,096,408 units, down 20% on 2011. The podium is 100% Fiat for the 4th time in the last 5 months: the Fiat Panda ranks #1 for the 9th consecutive month with 9,216 sales and 8.4% share, ahead of the Fiat Punto at 6,999 units and 6.3%, its highest share since last April, and the Fiat 500 with 3,544 sales and 3.2%.

The Lancia Ypsilon is back up to #4 thanks to 3,356 units and 3%, making the Top 4 100% Italian, like in the 2012 year-to-date ranking. If this stays the same until the end of the year it will be the first time it happens since 2000 when the Fiat Punto led the way ahead of the Fiat Seicento, Lancia Y and Fiat Panda… Below the Ford Fiesta and VW Golf each dropping two spots to fall back to their 2012 year-to-date positions at #5 and #6, the Peugeot 208 confirms it is now a long-term Top 10 model in Italy, ranking #7 with a best-ever 2.6% market share.

But the biggest performers are to be found lower in the ranking… The Nissan Micra is up 16 ranks to #17 with 1,331 sales and 1.2%, the Mercedes B-Class is up 5 to #22 at 1,107 units and 1%, the VW Up! gains 22 spots on August to reach its highest ever ranking in Italy at #23 thanks to 995 sales and 0.9%, the BMW X3 is up a spectacular 38 ranks to a best-ever #24 at 957 units and 0.9%. Last but not least, the Fiat 500L breaks into the Italian Top 50 and Top 25 at once for its first full month of sales in its native country, landing directly at #25 with 938 sales and 0.9%.

    Luckly, italians don’t buy pick-up cars and Great Wallm
    anyway, GreatWall in Italia had sell 1 car in September and 10 cars in whole year 2012: in 9 months 2011 were 719: these 2012 so low are because GreatWall is now retired by the italian market.

    Rumi Skoda doesn’t sell so well in italy only 656 cars in september for all types that’s why you can’t find any car in the 50 most sold cars :)

    Matt,y so,they r well priced cars with good quality,specs so y der such problem,even hyundai have sales in top 50,hope to c skoda citigo and rapid to get good nos,i think due to style skoda nos get affected,cuz italian love stylish cars

      Even though Skoda as a brand sells well in Italy, none of its models sell enough to rank within the Top 50.
