It will interesting to see how the Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii sell in comparision to the VW Up!, they are noticeably cheaper at least here in the UK and Skoda are well liked by their customers, coming top again in a recent Customers’ Satisfaction Survey. Thanks again for the blog.

VW is strong in all segments except in A-segment. Fiat is known for doing the best mini cars: standard quality with low maintainance costs, something that look most of people in that segment, and something VW does not offer, because the Up! is a really expensive car (it may offer better quality though).

For another analysis of model sales of Fiat Group during may you can see:

Here The Official UNRAE Italian Top50 of May, with real number (not estimated):

    http://www.unrae.it/studi-e-statistiche/categorie/studi-e-analisi/item/download/466

    how is clear,
    - Lancia Delta has been 1128 car selling (not 900),
    - Audi A1 has 1.216 (not 1100, so Audi A3 has only 726 car selling)

    - Dacia Sandero are 1011, Kia rio 847 and Sportage 851

    @Yann

It’s always been a bestseller in Italy, especially the first generation. One of the reasons, on top of being a pratical voiturette, may be the fact that Citroen Italy has always been quite generous with offering discounts and promotions.

The Smart fortwo has always been a strong seller over here in Italy, especially in big cities such as Milan and Rome, but the latest campaign offering very low rates may have boosted its success last month.

    Please,
the number of Lancia Delta is Wrong: not 900 but atleast 1100
And You can estimated this with this calculate:

    > tot. MAGGIO LANCIA 7.739
    - Ypsilon 4941
    - Musa 1446
    - Voyager 124
    - Flavia 52
    —————
    = Delta+Thema= 1.176
And we know on Unrae segmente source then last charted car of segment E (that of Lancia Thema) is jaguar Xf with 76, so Thema selling is less of 76 (other monthe were 50/60) so the remain of Lancia Delta 1100 (or more easly around 1120)
    ;)

I was considering buying a Ford Focus. But now, i found worrying messages:

    Source: Reuters – Mon, Apr 9, 2012

“Ford recalls more than 140,000 Focus cars in U.S
Ford Motor Co (F.N) is recalling 140,310 Focus cars from model year 2012 in the United States to repair a potential problem with the passenger-side windshield wiper motor, according to U.S. safety regulators.”

    and this:

    Source: CNNMoney January 11, 2012

“Ford recall covers nearly a half-million vehicles, including ’01 and ’02 Escape, as well as ’04 and ’05 Freestar and Monterey.”

I think i will now stand back from buying it.

    @matgasnier
Matt, that´s not the point at all. The point is: we cannot say that one marque ( in this case Fiat) is not as well build and have not better cars than another ( in this case vw). This is not a reliable or comparison blog!! We all know that´s wrong.

Nobody here knows anything about the reliability of Up/Mii/Citigo because these cars are new models. ;)

……………… but I´ve notice with pity that this site is too much VW trend!!!!!

Did you make your comment to the effect, that you indeed want to leave this blog ? Oh no, don’t do that, that would be a real pity, your comments are always so … balanced and informative. We would miss them !!

For God sake, this is not a site of VW propaganda!!! You´re comment must be banned as some softer comments were a few time ago, but I´ve notice with pity that this site is too much VW trend!!!!!

      Hi Miguel,
I’m sure you would have noticed by now that this site makes a point of being unbiased. I report sales figures and comment on the success (or not) of models across the globe. That VW happens to be extremely successful in numerous countries and therefore gets talked about a lot has nothing to do with VW propaganda.
I keep comments praising VWs as much as I keep your numerous comments praising Fords.
Plus as you can see on the most recent article on the page right now, even though the VW Beetle dominated sales in Norway for the most part of 20 years and the Golf for even longer, I have a Ford Cortina featured as the main picture.
      cheers
      Matt

That’s just your opinion, not supported by any technical or statistical data… Are you a Vw reseller or just a not-so-informed fan?

The Up/Mii/Citigo may not sell as many as the Panda and 500 at the moment, but they are built better and will hold their value longer as they all have the best reputation compared to Fiats abysmal reliability record, especially in UK. VAG products in the B & C sectors and above outsell the Fiat/Lancia/Alfa models as thats where the VAG group excels, at producing mid-range and large cars that look good, hold their values and are good to drive.

Is it true, that you congratulate a “car”, thus a thing, for it’s success ? You must admit, that’s a strange behaviour !

One thing is for sure: With Up/Citigo/Mii VW-group will improve their market-share in the A-segment. These models will not beat Fiat-models in this segment, but I do not think, that VW-group is aiming for this.

And finally the VW Up! takes off. Nevertheless it won’t be easy for it to have good numbers in a market that loves mini cars: Panda and 500. Here there is a good analysis about the first 4 months of sales of Panda-500-Up! come and see:
