Italy January 2012: Fiat Panda takes off UPDATED

The Italian car market continues to struggle at -17% year-on-year in January with 137,996 registrations. As the new model is being unveiled to the public in a series of traditional and very popular ‘open doors’ weekends, the Fiat Panda hits the pole position for the 4th time in the last 5 months with 10,452 sales and 7.6% share, a considerable 2,000 sales and 1.4% share above the Fiat Punto, #2 at 8,577 units and 6.2%.

Lancia Ypsilon

The Lancia Ypsilon is back onto the podium for the 5th time in the last 6 months with 5,143 sales and 3.7%, ahead of the Fiat 500 up 5 spots on December and the Ford Fiesta down 2 spots and a worrying 43% on January 2011. The Citroen C3 is up to brilliant 6th place, its highest ranking since the 2nd generation was launched, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta is back in the Top 10 at #8 after a 6 months absence and the Ford Focus, helped by its station wagon version now leading the category, breaks into the Top 10 for the first time since the new model is on sale.

Range Rover Evoque

Further down the ranking, notice the Ford C-Max up 21 spots on December to #14, the VW Tiguan up 11 ranks to #15, the Hyundai ix35 up 26 spots to #24, the BMW 3 Series up 31 ranks to #27, the Ford Kuga up 24 spots to #30 and the Kia Rio breaking into the Italian Top 50 for the first time at #44. The Range Rover Evoque is getting very close to do the same thing, up to a shiny 54th place in January, an extraordinary performance for a Range Rover…
