Germany private sales July 2026: BMW X1 best-seller, Mini and Citroen C3 shine

The Citroen C3/C3 Aircross ranks #10 with German private buyers in July.

98,917 new cars were sold to German private buyers in July, a 36.9% private sales ratio (PSR) and a solid 8.3% year-on-year improvement. The July 2025 PSR was 34.5%. Year-to-date, private sales are up 8.5% to 609,856 and 34.8% PSR vs. 33.7% a year ago. Volkswagen tops the brands ranking but only holds a 11.8% share vs. 17.9% in the overall market due to a lower than average PSR of just 24.3%. Mercedes and Skoda leapfrog past BMW but all of their PSR are below the market ratio. Dacia is up to #5 with 5.2% share vs. #13 and 2.4% in the overall market thanks to a 80.2% PSR. Other great performers include Leapmotor (88.5% PSR), Renault (66.3%), Fiat (64%), BYD (56.3%), Citroen (56%) and Hyundai (51.5%).

Model-wise, the BMW X1 (51.6% PSR) snaps the top spot for the second time this year after last April, distancing the VW T-Roc (37%) which was the year-ago leader. the VW Golf (22.1%) is back up to #3 vs. #7 last month ahead of the Mini lineup (42.4%). The Dacia Sandero (86.8%) is down two ranks on June to #5 vs. #34 in the overall market. The next five models all sport above-average PSR. The Fiat Ducato (79%) shows the highest level above the Hyundai Tucson (62.1%), Citroen C3/C3 Aircross (60.5%), Skoda Elroq (54.8%) and Karoq (53.7%). The new Renault Twingo is already up to #16 with 88.3% PSR.
