Russia May 2026: Toyota and Jaecoo surge

Toyota sales more than double year-on-year despite not being officially present in Russia.

New car sales in Russia advance 20.5% year-on-year in May to 109,892 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 11.8% to 492,342. Lada (+11%) trails its home market but is still up, reaching 25.8% share which is better than the 25.2% it commands year-to-date. Haval (+49.1%) surges ahead to 14.4% of the market, its highest since last October. Newcomer Tenet confirms it has stabilised around 10% share in third place. Geely (+8.5%) and Changan (-7.9%) round out the Top 5, both discreet. Belgee (+42.7%) on the other hand displays solid health but the best performer in the Top 10 is a surprise: good old Toyota more than doubling its sales year-on-year at +102.6% to #7. Note Toyota doesn’t officially operate in Russia. Jaecoo (+82.6%) also shoots up.

The Lada Granta (-4.6%) holds onto the models top spot at 10.4% share, followed by the new Tenet T7 breaking its volume and share records at 7,763 and 7.1%. The Haval Jolion (+45.9%) is in excellent shape at #3 as opposed to the Lada Vesta (-13.8%). The Lada Niva Travel (+58%) impresses and closes the Top 5 out. The Changan Uni-S (+20.1%) returns inside the Top 10 for the first time since last August at #6, distancing a surging Haval M6 (+78%). Two newcomers follow: the Lada Iskra down one spot on April to #8 and the Tenet T4 down three to #9. The antediluvian Lada Niva Legend manages another Top 10 finish and is up 5.2% year-to-date.
