Bulgaria May 2025: Renault Megane surprise leader, Dongfeng Shine up to #6
The Renault Megane is the best-selling vehicle in Bulgaria in May.
The Bulgarian new car market are up 11.7% year-on-year in May to 4,805 units, which means the year-to-date tally is now up 6% to 22,818. Keep in mind a significant part of these registrations never see Bulgarian roads as they are reexported to other EU countries. Toyota (+16.4%) reclaims the brands pole position it holds year-to-date with a dominant 11.2% share. It distances Renault up 22.2% to 10.8% of the market. Volkswagen (+6.2%) stays at #3 ahead of three freefalling carmakers: Skoda (-33.7%), Dacia (-23.6%) and Hyundai (-12.3%). In contrast Mazda (+410.8%), Citroen (+33.8%) and Ford (+17.9%) show great health in the remainder of the Top 10. Dongfeng (+711.1%) also impresses at #13.
We have a surprise in the models ranking: after selling just 2 units over the first four months of the year, the Renault Megane (+268.3%) ends May on top with 4.6% share. Thanks to our reader Todor we have an explanation for this performance: this is the previous generation Megane sedan and the result of a corporate deal made months ago, the cars being all delivered in May. Leader year-to-date, the Toyota Corolla (+22.8%) drops to #2 but still easily outpaces the market. The Hyundai Tucson (+70.5%) is up two spots on last month to #3 ahead of the Mazda3 (+3100%) and Dacia Duster (-20.4%). The Dongfeng Shine (+775%) at #6, Dacia Bigster (+274.1%) at #7 and Toyota Hilux (+309.5%) at #9 all post surreal YoY gains below.
