Chile March 2024: Toyota and Mitsubishi L200 lead, GWM (+17.2%) defies freefalling market
The GWM Jolion is inside the Chilean Top 10 in March.
It’s a month to forget for Chilean new light vehicle sales at -37.4% year-on-year in March to just 23,525 units, the lowest March result since pandemic-plagued March 2020 (19,056). The Q1 volume is off -22.2% to 71,092. Strikingly the Top 9 brands all outpace the market, Toyota (-18.2%) and Chevrolet (-29.5%) remain in the lead with 7.6% and 6.8% share respectively, followed by Suzuki (-15.5%) and Kia (-16.1%) resisting better. Hyundai (-29.2%) and Peugeot (-30.2%) are hit harder whereas GWM (+17.2%) signs the only year-on-year gain in the Top 13. Below, notice Citroen (+23%), Subaru (+0.4%), Jetour (+196%) and BMW (+34.4%) all lodging brilliant results. As a whole, Chinese manufacturers are down -41.3% to 29.3% share vs. 28.9% over Q1.
Model-wise, the Mitsubishi L200 (-70.7%) holds onto the lead despite a ghastly year-on-year fall. It is followed by the Toyota Hilux (+5.7%) and Peugeot Partner (+40%) both defying the freefalling market. The Top 4 models are identical to the year-to-date order with the Chevrolet Groove (-13.3%) at #4. The Suzuki Swift (+3%) climbs to #5 ahead of the GWM Poer (-26.9%) and Hyundai Grand i10 (+18.8%). The GWM Jolion (+13.9%) is up to #9 while the Kia Soluto (+9.7%) is also up. Below, the Ford Ranger (+11.1%) and Citroen Berlingo (+177.8%) impress.
