After a record year in 2022, the Chilean new light vehicle market sinks -26.5% to 313,865 units. SUVs are down -24.2% to 143,696, passenger cars off -36.7% to 66,630, pickups down -19.3% to 70,680 and vans down -26.3% to 32,859. In the brands ranking, Toyota (-21.8%) overtakes Chevrolet (-43.1%) to claim the top spot with 8.3% share vs. 6.8% for the American brand. Hyundai (-12.5%) and sister marque Kia (-10.6%) resist very well and climb to #3 and #4 respectively, a four spot jump for the latter. Suzuki (-20.6%), Peugeot (-20.2%) and Nissan (-8.6%) also gain share below while Ford (+0.1%) edges up, the only gainer in the Top 12. Mazda (+31.9%), Citroen (+1.8%), Haval (+36.1%), Subaru (+41.8%) and Jetour (+28.2%) all impress in the remainder of the Top 30.

Over in the models aisle, the Toyota Hilux (-1.3%) scores what is believed to be its first ever Chilean pole position and 2.9% is enough for #1 in a fragmented market. The Mitsubishi L200 (-36.8%) and Maxus T60 (-39.5%) both drop one spot to #2 and #3 respectively and ensure the podium is 100% pickups like last year. The Chevrolet Groove (+7.5%) goes against the negative market and lands at #4 vs. #10 in 2022. The Great Wall Poer (-7.9%) is up three spots to #5, the Suzuki Swift (+28.4%) up 14 to #6 and the Kia Soluto (+26.8%) up 12 to #7. The Nissan Navara (+3.4%) and Ford Ranger (+27.5%) also deliver strong performances in the remainder of the Top 10.
