Chile November 2023: Market back in hell, four pickups in Top 5, Ford Ranger up 75.7%

Ford Ranger

After slowing down its fall in October at -12.5%, the Chilean new light vehicle market is back in hell this month at -19.2% year-on-year to just 25,630 sales. Though November, volumes are off -27% to 286,762. Passenger cars are down -19.7% to 5,707, SUVs off -16.1% to 12,259, pickups down -29.8% to 5,360 and vans off -28.7% to 2,304.

Toyota (-17.4%) resists slightly better than the market but its 7.6% share is lower than its YTD level of 8.4%. Chevrolet (-28.4%) freefalls at #2 whereas Hyundai (+0.6%) manages a thin gain and Kia (-2%) and Suzuki (-11.1%) restrain their fall. Ford (+15.7%) and Great Wall (+24.4%) are the only gainers in the remainder of the Top 15. Below, Haval (+130.7%), Jetour (+121.6%), Citroen (+67.4%), BMW (+44.6%) and Subaru (+39.2%) are among the best performers. We welcome Chinese fares Jaecoo and Leapmotor in the charts. All in all, Chinese carmakers are down -26% for the month to 27.8% share vs. 28.3% year-to-date.

Over in the models aisle, the Toyota Hilux (-2.7%) remains the favourite with 2.8% share. It is followed like last month by the Kia Soluto (+40.3%) in excellent shape. The Maxus T60 (-31.2%) and Great Wall Poer (+18.5%) are in tow with varying fortunes and the Ford Ranger (+75.7%) is pushed up by the new generation and makes it four pickups in the Top 5. The Suzuki Baleno (+1158.3%) and Hyundai Grand i10 (+13.4%) are the only remaining gainers in the Top 10. Notice also the Citroen Berlingo (+548.9%), Toyota Yaris (+373.1%) and Haval Jolion (+46.8%) posting stellar results.
