Russia April 2023: Market back up 70.6%, Russian brands up 187.3%, Chinese up 530%

First appearance of the Great Wall Tank 300 in the Russian Top 30 (#17).

New light vehicle sales in Russia bounce back 70.6% year-on-year in April to 54,270 registrations, meaning the year-to-date volume is now off -37.8% to 177,034. These figures don’t include Chery Group, Mercedes and BMW Group which report sales quarterly. The Top 4 brands vastly outpace the market: Lada is up 224.9% to 50.9% share, Haval up 805.4% to 13.5% of the market, Geely up 1311.8% to a record 11.3% share and GAZ up 112.1% to 7.4%. UAZ (+45.5%) rounds out the Top 5. All in all, Russian manufacturers are up 187.3% to 63.6% share vs. 64.6% so far this year. In 6th place, Changan (+721.8%) breaks its share record at 3.9%. Great Wall (+1625.5%) and FAW (+509%) fit inside the Top 10. Chinese brands skyrocket 530% year-on-year to 31.9% share with 8.4% a year ago.

Over in the models aisle, the Lada Granta (+665.9%) continues to soak up all its previous competitors’ sales and reigns supreme with 36.7% share. The Lada Niva (+275.2%) also evolves at stratospheric heights with 13.4% of the market, distancing the Haval Jolion (+986.9%), Geely Coolray (+1727.7%) and GAZ Gazelle (+127.9%). In fact the entire Top 8 models outrun the market with at least triple-digit year-on-year gains. The Haval F7X (+540.7%), Haval F7 (+433.2%) and Geely Tugella (+764.2%) follow. First ever appearance in the Top 30 of the Geely Monjaro directly at #14, the Great Wall Tank 300 (#17), Changan CS75FL (#20), FAW Bestune B70 (#26), Great Wall Tank 500 (#27) and FAW Bestune T55 (#28).
