Netherlands April 2023: Opel, Renault and Tesla sport biggest gains in market surging 35.2%

The Opel Corsa is up 231.6% year-on-year in April.

The Dutch new car market jumps another splendid 35.2% year-on-year in April to 29,669 registrations. We are however still 10.5% below the pre-pandemic score of April 2019 (33,149). This way, the year-to-date result is up 27.2% to 127,597. Kia (+25.6%), although sporting a very significant gain, trails the market but scores its second win of the year. Having won the 2022 race, Kia however remains #2 year-to-date with 7.9% share vs. 9.1% for Volkswagen, in outstanding shape this month (+82.7%). Peugeot (+37.6%) is up two spots on March to #3, while Toyota (+14.7%) although relatively weak year-on-year, gains six ranks on last mont to #4. Opel (+199.8%) and Renault (+149.5%) are by far the most dynamic manufacturers in the Top 10. Below, Tesla (+2639.3%!) continues to sport out-of-this-world year-on-year lifts as it reduces its reliance on end-of-quarter months. It rank #14 for the month and #11 year-to-date vs. #22 over the Full Year 2022. Land Rover (+127%), Dacia (+96%), Nissan (+77.5%) and Seat (+56.2%) are also in great shape further down.

As far as models are concerned, for the first time since September 2022 the Peugeot 208 (+28.1%) returns to the #1 spot it held over the Full Year 2022 but ranks #3 so far this year. The Kia Picanto (+55.6%) is in excellent shape at #2 as is the Opel Corsa (+231.6%) in third position. The Volvo XC40 (-6.6%) and Lynk & Co 01 (+1.2%) underperform but still hold outstanding YTD spots at #4 and #2 respectively, The Yaris Cross (+154.7%) is Toyota’s saviour at #6 with the Renault Clio (+334.6%) and Tesla Model Y (+2110%) post stratospheric life. The Model Y remains the #1 model year-to-date vs. #20 over the Full Year 2022. The Renault Megane E-Tech celebrates one year in market at #12.
