Netherlands May 2023: Market up 41.6%, Kia Picanto best-seller

The Kia Picanto is the best-selling vehicle in the Netherlands in May.

The Dutch new car market soars 41.6% year-on-year in May to 33,135 registrations, bringing the year-to-date tally up 29.9% to 160,617. Kia (+45.6%) manages to upstage the market and repeats at #1 with 10.6% share but remains #2 year-to-date below Volkswagen (+85.3%) even more dynamic this month. Toyota (+14.3%) advances to #3, overtaking Peugeot (-2.4%), the only loser in the Top 10. Volvo (+160.4%), Renault (+100.5%), Skoda (+52.8%) and BMW (+42.6%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10 while Hyundai (+41.5%) is just below and Opel (+16.5%) trails significantly behind. Tesla (+4592.6%) is up three ranks on last month to #11, a ranking it also holds YTD. MG (+340.9%) also impresses. 

The Kia Picanto (+299.2%) surges ahead to snap the overall pole position with 4.6% share. It is the first time since February 2022 that the Kia Picanto is the best-seller in the Netherlands. The Peugeot 208 (+12.5%) is dislodged to #2 while the Tesla Model Y (+3777.8%) is back up seven spots on April to #3, holding onto its YTD top spot. The Volvo XC40 (+182.4%) shows off and repeats at #4 ahead of the Opel Corsa (+11.8%). The VW ID.4 (+441.7%) is up 11 ranks on last month to #6 with the Lynk & Co 01 (+23.1%) down two to #7 and the Kia Niro (-7.4%) down one to #8. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+48%) rounds out the Top 10 above the Hyundai Tucson (+143.5%).
