Greece July 2022: Peugeot 208, Renault Clio and Opel Corsa top market up 2.7%

The Greek new car market edges up 2.7% year-on-year to 10,874 registrations, leading to a year-to-date tally down marginally at -4.8% to 65,672 units. Over in the brands ranking, Toyota (-9.1%) keeps the lead at 13% share, resisting a surge by Peugeot (+22.7%) up four spots on June to #2 with 12.4% of the market. Below Hyundai (-13.6%) in difficulty, Fiat (+178.6%) and Opel (+114.1%) round out the Top 5 in euphoric manner. They still fare worse than Renault (+291.9%) up four-fold year-on-year to #7 and 6.2% share vs. #16 and 2.8% so far this year. This contrasts with a generally poor performance across other European markets. All remaining Top 10 carmakers lose ground year-on-year, with Suzuki (-42.7%) and Kia (-36.9%) hit the worst. DS is up to #17 with 2.4% share vs. 1% YTD.

Model-wise, the Top 3 best-sellers all post extravagant year-on-year gains: the Peugeot 208 is up 344.4% to #1, scoring its 2nd win of the year after last March. The 208 jumps from #6 to #2 year-to-date, a spot it also held over the Full Year 2021. The Renault Clio (+420.7%) is up 35 spots on June to #2 and the Opel Corsa (+299.2%) is up seven to #3. In contrast the Toyota Yaris (-26.8%) is in freefall but easily holds onto the YTD #1 spot with 5.6% share. The Fiat Tipo is up 1963.2% (!) year-on-year and 58 ranks on June to #5, equalling its best-ever ranking in Greece hit in December 2020. The Toyota Yaris Cross (#6) remains by far the best-selling recent launch in the country, way above the VW Taigo (#66), Dacia Jogger (#85) and Ford Mustang Mach-E (#95). Finally, notice the Peugeot 308 (+4440%) at #11 and the DS 3 Crossback (+3133.3%) at #12.
