Kazakhstan May 2022: Chevrolet Cobalt up to record 24.6% share, Exeed lands in Top 10, market down -17.8%

Exeed lands directly inside the Kazakh Top 10 in May.

New vehicle sales in Kazakhstan drops -17.8% year-on-year in May to 8,295 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -9.9% to 39,987. Chevrolet (-5.8%) limits its fall to reach 31.7% share vs. 21.3% YTD where it remains #2. Hyundai (+6.6%) swims upstream year-on-year but only manages 21.1% share vs. 26.1% so far this year. Kia (-11.3%) and Lada (+18.4%) follow while Toyota (-54.1%) closes out the Top 5 in great difficulty. JAC (+88.5%) and Lexus (+68.5%) manage by far the best upticks in the Top 10 just as Chery is up one spot on April to #8. The event of the month in the Top 10 is the arrival directly in 9th place with 1.2% share of Exeed, a brand by Chery.

Model-wise, the Chevrolet Cobalt (+101.2%) reaches new heights at a record 24.6% share or 1 vehicle out of 4 sold this month in Kazakhstan, eclipsing its previous record of 22.9% reached just last month. The Hyundai Elantra (+168.3%), Tucson (+9675%) and Lada Granta (+262.4%) also post market-defying and large lifts while the Hyundai Santa Fe (+8.6%) is more discreet in 5th place but still up. The Chevrolet Nexia (-80.1%) is the only Top 10 nameplate in negative, with the JAC J7 (+360%), Hyundai Sonata (+294.4%), Toyota Prado (+61%) and Lada Vesta (+12.1%) all sport strong upticks.
