Czech Republic March 2022: Skoda Fabia distant leader in market down -15.7%

The Skoda Fabia is the best-selling vehicle in the Czech Republic in March.

The Czech new car market is down -15.7% year-on-year in March 2022 to just 16,903 units, tilting the year-to-date volume into negative territory at -4.3% to 47,391. Local behemoth Skoda (-32.8%) falls twice as fast as its home market to 29.1% share vs. 35.1% so far this year. The top 8 brands are unchanged on February and YTD, with Kia (+34.3%) and Dacia (+33.9%) standing out and showing market defying lifts, Hyundai (-10.2%) gaining share year-on-year and Volkswagen (-16.9%), Ford (-23.7%) and Mercedes (-33.4%) not doing so. Renault (+11.1%) and Opel (+14.5%) round out the Top 10 in very solid fashion.

Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia (-1.8%) easily takes control of the market with 7.5% share but remains #2 year-to-date below the Skoda Octavia (-71.6%) in total perdition this month to #10. The Hyundai i30 (-34.5%) is up five spots on last month despite a steep year-on-year fall while the Skoda Karoq (-44.9%) does even worse but is also up five ranks on February to #3. The Skoda Superb (-18.7%) and Scala (-20.3%) are closer to the market evolution just as a robust Kodiaq (-1.1%) makes it five Skodas in the Top 6. The Hyundai Tucson (+28%) continues to evolve at much higher levels than a year ago thanks to the new generation but is down four spots on last month to #7. The Dacia Duster (+38.1%) manages the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 13 while its cousin the Kia Sportage (+113%) shows explosive growth also thanks to a new model and ranks at #14. The Toyota Yaris Cross (#27) is the best-selling recent launch above the Hyundai Bayon (#42), Renault Arkana (#44), Dacia Jogger (#49) and VW Taigo (#52).
