Czech Republic January 2022: Skoda places a record 7 models in Top 7 for the first time

The Skoda Superb is up 67.3% to #3 at home in January.

New car sales in the Czech Republic actually gain ground year-on-year in January at +9.9% to 16,263 units. Local behemoth Skoda (+15.9%) easily outpaces its home market to hit 40.9% share, its highest in exactly two years: since the 43.3% of January 2020. Hyundai (+1.9%) is a lot shyer but remains in 2nd place with 7.4% share while Volkswagen (-35.2%) freefalls but gains one spot on December to #3. Dacia (+126.1%), Kia (+113.5%), Renault (+104.4%) and Toyota (+63.8%) all show fantastic form below. Cupra (+2625%), Ssangyong (+613.3%), Porsche (+161.5%) and Mini (+104.5%) also shine further down.

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (+66.2%) spectacularly reclaims the top position off the Skoda Fabia (-18.1%) who led over the Full Year 2021. The Octavia holds 14% of its home market, its highest since the 14.6% of September 2018. The Octavia and Fabia are followed by the Superb (+67.3%), Scala (+20.6%), Kamiq (-10%), Kodiaq (-5.5%) and Karoq (-10.9%) which means there are 7 Skodas in the Top 7 for the first time in Czech history. The Hyundai i30 (-23.8%) is the best-selling non-Skoda at #8, followed by the Dacia Sandero (+211.8%) and Hyundai Tucson (+27%) both in great shape.
