Slovakia August 2021: Volkswagen (+82.6%), Dacia (+36.2%), Suzuki (+131.6%) defy market down -2.9%

The Dacia Duster is up to #3 in Slovakia in August.

New car sales in Slovakia edge down -2.9% year-on-year in August to 6.778 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 7.4% to 52.922. Brand leader Skoda (-17%) struggles and drops to a meagre 16.5% share vs. 21.8% so far this year. In contrast, the next three brands all post spectacular year-on-year gains: Volkswagen (+82.6%) distances Hyundai (+15.4%) and Kia (+29.2%). Toyota (-7%) is a little shy but scores a 7.8% share, above its YTD level. Suzuki (+131.6%) and Dacia (+36.2%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10, Mercedes (+2.2%) edges up but Peugeot (-39.9%) and BMW (-19.9%) sink. Further down, notice Ssangyong (+175%), Subaru (+46.7%), Mazda (+21.5%) and Nissan (+13%).

Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia retains the top spot but drops to a weak 4.2% share, only 18 sales above the #2, the Hyundai i30 at 4%. The Dacia Duster is up 8 spots on July to land on the third step of the podium ahead of the Hyundai Tucson up one to #4 and the Kia Ceed up four to #5. The Skoda Kamiq remains in 6th place while the Skoda Scala is down three ranks on last month to #7, the VW T-Cross is down one to #8, the Skoda Octavia down six to #9 and the Kia Sportage down two to round out the Top 10. The VW Polo is up 18 spots to #13 and the Ssangyong Korando C is up 54 to #15.
