Bulgaria June 2020: Skoda topples Dacia to take charge in market down -33.1%

Skoda is the most popular carmaker in Bulgaria so far in 2020.

The situation is bettering in Bulgaria with June new vehicle sales down -33.1% year-on-year to 2.717 vs. -68.1% in May, -74% in April and -45.4% in March, bringing the year-to-date total to 12.759 units, down -44.6% over the same period in 2019. In an environment where re-exports, the engine of a large swath of Bulgarian registrations, have almost entirely stopped due to lack of demand in Western Europe, the hero of the month is Skoda (+49.8%) lurching up 3 spots on May to take the lead of the brands ranking both in June and year-to-date, toppling traditional leader Dacia (-47.7%). Renault (-1.5%), leader in April, resists very well in 2nd place this month. Mercedes (-15.3%) and Volkswagen (-22.9%) are the only additional Top 10 to over-perform, whereas Toyota (-52.1%), Kia (-51.2%), Peugeot (-48%), Ford (-45.1%) and Nissan (-41.1%) freefall. Haval (+700%), Maserati (+200%), Alfa Romeo (+100%), DS (+100%) and Porsche (+50%) also post impressive gains but all sell in the single-digits in June.
