Tesla is back up to #6 in Hong Kong thanks to the launch of the Model 3.
New car sales in Hong Kong sink -9.5% year-on-year in 2019 to 38.299 units, hampered by social movements in the territory that crippled dealership activity towards the 2nd half of the year. Toyota (-5%) resists better than the market to improve its share to an even more dominant 31.8%. Mercedes (-19.5%) and Honda (-22%) both lose significant shape as they freefall, with BMW (-3.5%) and Nissan (-0.4%) holding up much better and rounding out the Top 5. Thanks to the launch of the Model 3, Tesla (+1062.5%) shoots up the ranking from #24 in 2018 to #6 in 2019, peaking at #3 and 11.5% share in November. No other Top 12 carmaker manages a year-on-year gain, with Citroen (+270.8%), Lamborghini (+163.1%), Hyundai (+159.9%), Suzuki (+121.2%), McLaren (+55.8%), Rolls Royce (+50%) and Infiniti (+27.4%) are among the standing out brands further down.
