Argentina August 2019: Toyota #1 for 4th straight month, places Hilux and Etios on top in market imploding again (-32.7%)

The Toyota Hilux remains ultra-dominant in the Argentinean models charts.

The strong subsidies program launched by the Argentinean government to try and salvage a dangerously freefalling has failed to stop the rot, with August sales down another discouraging -32.7% year-on-year to 44.006 units, leading to a year-to-date volume down -45.5% to 341.838. Toyota (-2.2%) posts the best hold in the Top 20 to top theArgentinean brands charts for the 4th consecutive month at 15.3% share vs. 13.8% YTD where it steps up to #2 below Volkswagen (-37.9%) imploding this month at #2. In fact, the next 8 best-sellers below Toyota all fall even faster than the market, with Renault (-54.4%), Peugeot (-50.6%), Citroen (-45.2%), Ford (-41.3%) and Fiat (-40.8%) hit the hardest. Haval (+300%), Alfa Romeo (+244.4%), Mitsubishi (+66.7%), Shineray (+15%) and Ram (+13.2%) are the only carmakers managing a year-on-year uptick in the entire market, yet they all hold 0.2% or less share.

The Toyota Hilux (+2.3%) manages the only year-on-year gain among the Top 6 models, selling at least 50% more than any other nameplate in market and cementing its YTD lead. Toyota even manages a 1-2 for the third time in the past 12 months with the Etios (-23%) overtaking the Chevrolet Onix (-35.2%) to step up to #2. The Ford Ka (-50.2%) and Ranger (-16%) round up the Top 5, with the Toyota Yaris (+16142.9%) celebrating one year in market at #7. The VW T-Cross is up 6 spots on July to #17, easily dominating the new launch order above the Honda WR-V (#61) and Chevrolet Equinox (#70).
