Hungary July 2019: Suzuki shoots up to 25.8% share, highest in 20 years

The Suzuki Vitara breaks its Hungarian share record at 12.2%.

The Hungarian new car market shoots up 26.9% year-on-year in July to 15.284 units, lifting the year-to-date tally up 8.5% to 89.830. After hitting its highest monthly market share in 11 years last month at 19.3%, Suzuki (+203.6%) doubles down in July, now evolving at its highest in 20 years. Firstly, it spectacularly triples its volume year-on-year to just under 4.000 units which is almost 4 times any other brand in Hungary. Second, it hits a gargantuan 25.8% share, a level it hadn’t reached here since 1999 in much less competitive times when it commanded an annual share of 24.6%. All other carmakers pale in comparison this month, with Dacia (+80.4%), Kia (+51.4%) and Renault (+16.8%) posting the next largest gains in the Top 10 and Volkswagen (-20.1%) struggling mightily.

Model-wise, the Suzuki Vitara (+127.2%) breaks its share record at 12.2% (previous best 11.5% in March 2018) as does the Suzuki SX4 up 12-fold (!) on July 2018 to 9.3% share. Far below, the Skoda Octavia (+39.9%), Kia Cee’d and Fiat 500 also make waves and close up the Top 5. Up to #6, the Suzuki Swift delivers its first Top 10 finish since October 2016 (#5).
