New car sales in Hungary are down 5.8% year-on-year in 2007 to 176.978 units. Suzuki opened a factory in Hungary in 1991 and has been the best-selling carmaker in the country for the past 11 years in a row with sales down just 1% to an improved 18.2% share. 2007 is however a historical year, with the Japanese brand delivering the exceptional performance of monopolising the entire podium: the Swift is the best-selling model in the country for the third year running at 8.8% share ahead of the Suzuki SX4 at 4.5% and the Suzuki Ignis at 4.1%… To this data this is the only year Suzuki has managed that feat in Hungary.
Back to the brands ranking where Opel (-6%) follows the market and Ford (-4%) betters it slightly to remain on the podium while Volkswagen (-4%) passes Skoda (-14%) to #4. The remainder of the Top 10 all drop sales year-on-year but Renault (-28%) is hit the hardest. Kia (+49%), Alfa Romeo (+35%), Mercedes (+24%), Land Rover (+19%) and Honda (+18%) go resolutely against the grain. In the models ranking, the Opel Astra Classic and Skoda Fabia round out the Top 5 while the Skoda Octavia is back up 5 spots to #8.
