Taiwan May 2019: Toyota Corolla (+48.2%) holds off RAV4 (+98.9%) in market up 6%
The new gen Toyota Corolla has landed in Taiwan.
The Taiwanese new car market posts a sturdy 6% year-on-year uptick in May to 37.829 registrations, yet a paltry start of the year means the year-to-date tally is down -8.5% to 168.683. Brand leader Toyota (+14.7%) more than doubles the market grow to solidify its leadership at 24.1% share vs. just 11.1% for the #2 brand Mitsubishi/CMC (+4.4%) while Nissan/Infiniti (+0.3%) completes a podium entirely in positive. Once again Ford (+50%) is the hero of the Top 10 alongside Volkswagen (+19.2%) while all other brands lost ground, specially Mazda (-50.3%) and Honda (-28.5%) both freefalling. Helped by a new generation, the Toyota Corolla (+48.2%) manages to hold onto the models pole position for just 63 sales above the Toyota RAV4 (+98.9%) which however remains #1 YTD. The Nissan Kicks, Honda CR-V and CMC Veryca complete a Top 5 unchanged on April. The Ford Focus (+255%) continues to post spectacular gains thanks to the new model.
