Ukraine March-April 2019: Renault, Kia Sportage dominate market back in positive
The Kia Sportage is the uncontested best-seller in Ukraine so far in 2019.
In March, new car sales in Ukraine register their first uptick in 7 months at +7.7% to 7.327 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -4.9% to 18.343, the first Q1 decline since 2015. Renault (+66.4%) is on fire on pole position at 13.8% share ahead of Toyota (-7%) in difficulty, Kia (+218.4%), Skoda (+36.7%) and Nissan (+28.3%) all posting spectacular gains. Suzuki (+51.9%), Mitsubishi (+51.1%), BMW (+47.2%) and Mazda (+18.1%) also impress further down. The Kia Sportage (+496.7%) is up 6-fold year-on-year to cement its YTD crown ahead of the Renault Duster (+89.8%) and Toyota RAV4 (+54.2%) in a podium 100% SUV like last month. The Renault Sandero (+132.3%), Skoda Kodiaq (+81.2%), Renault Logan (+80%), Skoda Octavia (+35.4%), Nissan X-Trail (+25.5%) and Qashqai (+24.1%) complete a very dynamic Top 10.
In April, the Ukrainian new car market manages to edge up 0.9% to 6.903 sales – the largest volume for the month since 2014 – however the YTD tally remains in negative at -3.4% to 24.246. Renault (+64.8%) continues to gallop ahead at a splendid 16.1% share, distancing Toyota (+13%), Kia (+114.1%) and Skoda (+43.6%) all outpacing the market. Suzuki (49.7%) and BMW (+37.7%) also stand out in the Top 10 but Volkswagen (-61.2%) and Mazda (-31.1%) suffer terribly. The models podium is unchanged on the last few months: the Kia Sportage (+296.2%), Renault Duster (+60.1%) and Toyota RAV4 (+59.3%) continue to dominate with the Suzuki Vitara (+104.8%), Renault Logan (+98.2%), Sandero (+78.7%), Skoda Octavia (+65.2%) and Nissan Qashqai (+50.8%) also standing out in the Top 10. The Jaguar i-Pace (#66) is the best-selling newcomer.
