Vietnam Full Year 2018: Toyota takes the lead, Vios #1 for the 5th straight year

New vehicle sales in Vietnam gain 5.1% year-on-year in 2018 to 286.653 units, the 2nd largest annual volume in history below 2016 (304.427). Toyota (+11%) overtakes Thaco-Kia (-6.7%) to take the lead of the manufacturers ranking with 23% share vs. 20.6%, while both Mazda (+25.8%) and Honda (+123.3%) post spectacular gain to overtake Ford (-13.8%). Mitsubishi (+54%), Chevrolet (+16.6%) and Suzuki (+13.5%) also impress. Model-wise, the Toyota Vios (+22.1%) improves on its record share from last year to 9.5%, snapping a 5th consecutive crown and followed this time by the Toyota Innova (+21.5%), Mazda3 (+26.4%), Mazda CX-5 (+36%) and Kia Cerato (+106.7%) all posting higher market shares than last year. The Honda CR-V (+150.4%) and City (+56.9%) also shine in the Top 10 whereas the Toyota Fortuner (-53.7%) and Ford Ranger (-41.9%) crumble down. Outstanding start for the Toyota Wigo (#17) ranking as high as #2 in October, with the Honda Jazz (#24), Chevrolet Trailblazer (#30), Honda HR-V (#35), Mitsubishi Xpander (#41) and Toyota Rush (#44) also making their entrance inside the Vietnamese Top 50 this year.
