Vietnam Full Year 2016: Toyota Vios leads market above 300.000 units

After surging 43% in 2014 and 55% in 2015, the Vietnamese new car market continues to gallop ahead in 2016 with deliveries up 24% to a record 304.427 units, the first time new vehicle sales in the country cross the 300.000 annual unit-milestone. Thaco-Kia remains the most popular manufacturer in Vietnam, beating the market at +35% to 80.113 units and 26.3% share. This includes 43.787 Thaco heavy trucks, meaning Kia sold 36.326 passenger cars in Vietnam in 2016, a 56% surge vs. 57.036. and 18.7% for Toyota (+13%). Mazda soars 58% to 32.108 units and 10.5% share, overtaking Ford up 40% to 9.5% ahead of Honda (+38%), Chevrolet (+32%), Hyundai (+41%), Isuzu (+14%), Suzuki (+31%) and Mitsubishi (+47%). Mercedes is up 36% to 11th place.

In the models ranking, the Toyota Vios signs a third consecutive year in the lead, improving slightly faster than the market at +28% for a 5.8% share. The Kia Morning shoots up 78% and 3 spots to land in 2nd place, ahead of the Ford Ranger (+62%), Mazda3 (+107%) and Toyota Fortuner (+18%). The Toyota Innova, up just 14%, is down four spots to #6. Other great performers include the Mazda CX-5 (+85%), Kia Cerato (+56%), Honda Coty (+81%), Mazda2 (+74%), Kia Sorento (+59%) and Kia Rondo (+113%). The Nissan X-Trail is the best-selling all-new nameplate for 2016 at #37, followed by the Ford Everest (#43), Mitsubishi Outlander (#45) and Isuzu MU-X (#48).
