Argentina April 2018: Ford Ka posts first #1 finish in record market
The Ford Ka is the best-selling vehicle in Argentina in April.

New car sales in Argentina soar 21.3% year-on-year in April to 76.554 units, the highest score for the month since 2013 (81.411). The year-to-date volume now stands at an all-time high 348.713, up 20.3% on the same period in 2017. In the brands ranking, Volkswagen (+2%) reclaims the top spot it holds YTD but Renault (+33%) and Ford (+16%) do much better just below while March leader Chevrolet (+4%) drops three spots to #4. Stunningly, five of the six next best-sellers all outpace the market, led by Jeep up a gargantuan 279%, Nissan (+124%), Peugeot (+39%), Citroen (+35%) and Toyota (+35%). Only Fiat (+20%) isn’t able to match the market growth, but just. Audi (+85%), Agrale (+68%), Kia (+58%) and Suzuki (+48%) also shine further down the ranking but it’s the Chinese that monopolise the largest gains, overall up 79% in April to 1.4% share and 46% YTD to 1%, boosted by Dongfeng (+2000%), Geely (+322%), Lifan (+68%) and Chery (+46%).
Model-wise, the Ford Ka posts its very first monthly win thanks to deliveries up 32% year-on-year, distancing the Toyota Hilux (+29%), Etios (+39%), Chevrolet Onix (+14%) and Prisma (+26%). The fight for the FY2018 title promises to be very tight this year with the Toyota Etios (+33%) in the lead after 4 months, only 106 units above the Toyota Hilux (+15%) and 175 above the Chevrolet Onix (+43%). The Renault Kwid leaps a further two spots on March to reach #7 with new volume and share records at 2.384 and 3.1%. The VW Polo (+866%) and Renault Logan (+193%) also impress inside the Top 10 with the Ford Ecosport (+79%) shining just outside. Among recent launches (< 12 months), the Fiat Argo is up one spot to #13, followed by the Fiat Cronos at #22 (+10), the Nissan Kicks at #32 (+6), VW Virtus at #40 (+83) and Citroen C4 Cactus at #60 (+1).
