Argentina April 2017: VW Gol cements leadership in market up 6%

The VW Gol is #1 in Argentina for the third straight month.

The Argentinean new vehicle market continues to fare well so far this year yet April results are a little shyer at +6% on a year ago to 63.091 sales, leading to a year-to-date tally up 31% to 289.986. The brands ranking shows exceptional stability with the Top 11 best-sellers identical to March. Volkswagen ends the month in pole position by a large margin: four percentage points of market share separate it from the #2 Chevrolet. Both manufacturers beat the market with a 9% improvement. The next three carmakers do better with double-digit gains: Ford (+12%), Renault (+11%) and Fiat (+14%) shine whereas Toyota (-15%), Peugeot (-26%) and Citroen (-19%) struggle. This month many brands manage very impressive year-on-year gains, among them Honda (+81%), Mercedes (+48%), Hyundai (+291%), Kia (+44%), BMW (+113%), Audi (+46%), Volvo (+103%) an Lifan (+516%) in order of ranking.

Model-wise, the VW Gol posts a third consecutive month in pole position thanks to sales up 20%, yet the next best-sellers show vastly more dynamic gains: the Renault Sandero is up 170% to rank 2nd for the second straight month and the Ford Ka up 166% to third place. Below the Toyota Hilux down 26%, the Chevrolet Onix (+137%) and Prisma (+209%) also impress. The Fiat Palio (-11%), VW Amarok (-18%) and Ford Focus (-19%) disappoint Among recent launches, the Fiat Mobi is up two spots on March to #14, the Fiat Toro does the same at #23 and the Renault Captur also at #32. We welcome the Peugeot 301 at #154.
