Exclusive to BestSellingCarsBlog, we are able to share with you for the seventh year in a row official new car sales data for the Principality of Monaco, nestled within the French Riviera but displaying extravagant purchase patterns due to the wealth of its inhabitants. It’s a very healthy market in 2017 with sales up a robust 10.7% year-on-year to 3.343 units, by far the largest annual volume since BSCB started reporting on Monaco in 2012. Mercedes holds the brands top spot for the fourth consecutive year but a 1% sales drop sees it lose almost two percentage points of market share vs. 2016 at 15.3%. In contrast, Audi soars 22% year-on-year to reach 12% share and Porsche delivers a sixth consecutive third position but drops to 8.3% share due to sales trailing the market at just +4%. Land Rover (+29%), BMW (+20%) and Fiat (+33%) follow, all overtaking Smart down three spots and 4% to #7. Toyota (+32%) and Mini (+13%) are the other two Top 10 carmakers to post double-digit gains.
Just outside, Bentley surges 70% and misses a historical Top 10 ranking for just 3 sales at a staggering 4.1% share. That’s almost double that of French carmakers Renault (+25%) and Peugeot (+35%) equal #12 with 2.2% share. Indeed, although nested within France, car buyers in Monaco do not rate French marques, with none of them even making the Top 10 and no official dealerships in the Principality, all cars needing to be imported from France. Ferrari drops 2% but still hits a world-best 1.9% share at #14. Jaguar gains 7% to #18, Maserati is down 28% to #20, Alfa Romeo is up 47% to #23, Lamborghini up 59% to #24 and Aston Martin up 92% to #26. Rolls-Royce (-31%), McLaren (-29%) and Tesla (-28%) struggle while Bugatti reappears in the ranking at #46.
