As we await final Full Year 2013 figures for Thailand, thanks to Austin and Thai website headlightmag I can give you very detailed data for January 2014! 69,154 new vehicles found a buyer in the country this month, and below perennial leaders Toyota Hilux (17.3% share) and Isuzu D-Max (14.7%) we witness a once in a decade event: a changeover in the passenger car sales lead. Enjoying eco-car tax privileges, the new generation Toyota Yaris now costs less than the Vios and outsells it for the first time and, strikingly, as early as for its first month in market thanks to 4,070 sales and 5.9% share vs. 3,582 and 5.2% for the Vios!
In fact Toyota places 4 models inside the Top 5 with the Corolla back up to #5 and 3.7% share thanks to the new generation. The Honda City and Nissan Almera are passed by the Mitsubishi Triton (#6) and Ford Ranger (#7) but we have a second new entrant in the Top 10 this month: the all-new Isuzu MU-X, an SUV version of the Isuzu D-Max, superbly lands directly at #10 with 1,808 sales and 2.6% share, pushing Isuzu to #2 brand with 18.6% share vs. 15.6% over the Full Year 2013. Notice also the Nissan Juke appearing at #12.
