The Bulgarian new car market is estimated to be up a shiny 9% year-on-year in August to 2,096 registrations, reducing the year-to-date decline to -1% at 15,783 units. After the Dacia Logan topped the sales charts over the Full Year 2012 but has since disappeared from the ranking while we wait for the new generation of the model to hit Bulgaria, the models ranking was left in a bit of limbo, with the Kia Sportage, Toyota Auris, Yaris and Nissan Qashqai successively snatching the pole position. This period may be over. In August the Dacia Dokker shoots up to an unbelievable 14.6% market share thanks to 306 sales in the country, leading it directly to #1 year-to-date at 532 units and 3.4%… This is by very far the Dokker’s best performance anywhere in the world since the model launched last year.
One-off or the start of a long-term reign? The next few months will tell, but two things need to be noted: firstly the Dokker won’t be able to maintain itself at these stratospheric levels, so a return to around 5% share as early as next month should be in the cards. Second, the Dokker, relatively close to the Logan MCV in terms of potential usage, could also just be a ‘stand in’ while Bulgarian consumers wait for the new gen Logan MCV to arrive. In the rest of the ranking, the Nissan Qashqai is up to #2 with 101 sales and 4.8% and now ranks #3 year-to-date vs. #30 in 2012, the Great Wall Voleex C10 is back to its shiny self at #3 with 95 units and 4.5%, the Toyota RAV4 is up 16 ranks to #8, Skoda Rapid up 19 to #12 and the Peugeot 301 up one to #13.
